Those Anti-Aging Products Might Be Fading Your Color!

We all know the importance of taking good care of our skin and hair, but did you know that a certain common ingredient in skin care could cause your hair color to fade, and your hair itself to become a bit dry and brittle?

Vitamin C, and more specifically Ascorbic Acid, is a wonder ingredient used in most anti-aging and antioxidant rich skin moisturizers, serums, and masks. Vitamin C is used for a multitude of targeted areas of concern, like reversing photo-damage from sun rays, and boosting collagen production in the skin cells. But there is one other thing is does quite well....erases your color! Ascorbic acid breaks the chemical chain that allows color molecules to adhere to the hair, essentially acting as a color eraser! So, if you've been noticing increased or rapid fading especially around your hairline, check your skincare products for Vitamin C or Ascorbic Acid!

Of course, we would never discourage you from using these things, they do have wonderful benefits for the skin. BUT, be aware of how close you are bringing these products to your hairline! And always let your stylist know if you do use Vitamin C rich skin care, so we can approach your color in the proper way, and give you all the advice you need to avoid fadage!
