Alex Royal - Lash Extension Specialist & Stylist

What made you get into this industry?

I got into the beauty industry because for as long as I can remember I wanted to do hair. At first I pursued other avenues, but I couldn’t get hair off my mind so I finally decided to go for it. Now I get to work in an environment where I can unleash my creativity and at the same time enable women and men to feel like the best version of themselves.

What is your favorite product right now?

My current favorite product is R+Co’s Palm Springs. It is a pre shampoo treatment mask that revitalizes damaged and dry hair while hydrating, strengthening, and delivering tons of shine. Keeping your hair in the healthiest state possible is the first step in achieving your desired outcome with various colors and styles.

What is your specialty?

My specialty in the beauty industry is eyelash extensions. I apply the extensions one by one to the natural eyelashes, and I use a variety of lengths and thicknesses to create a completely customized and beautiful set of eyelashes for each individual.

Favorite tip, trick, or hack?

My favorite tip for applying products is to rub the product all over your hands and in between your fingers, and then to, slowly, finger comb it through your hair. Most people make the mistake of accidentally putting all the product right in one spot, which weighs down that hair, while neglecting the rest of their head. This way the product will be spread evenly and your hair will receive the most benefits from the product. Happy styling!

Favorite hair trend of 2018?

My favorite current hair trend is a beautiful sun kissed balayage. This trend is very natural looking, vibrant, and low maintenance, and just like highlights, can be customized for anyone.

What advice would you give to your clients?

My biggest piece of advice is to skip the drugstore products! The FDA does not hold these products to the same standard as salon grade products, so they are full of filler ingredients that just weigh your hair down and create build up. Don’t think you’re safe on amazon either. Even if you are buying salon grade products from them most of the time they will be old expired versions, or not even the actual product in the bottle. Do your hair a favor and give it what is guaranteed to be the best.

What do you love about working in a salon environment?

I love being around people, and seeing them transform. Watching people leave with a confidence boost is super gratifying. And being in a creative environment makes every day something new and exciting.

What is your favorite product right now?

Palm springs (R+Co). I love that it works for all different hair types, how it rejuvenates the hair, and leaves it feeling super soft. Plus it smells amazing!

Favorite hair trend of 2018?

Shadow root. It looks so easy and effortless but put together at the same time.

What are your future plans in this industry?

Get licensed! I want to find my niche in hair and what my specialty is going to be. I’m excited to continue to pursue a career in hair.

Casey Thurston- Makeup Artist

Why makeup?

Ive loved playing with makeup since I was little. Being able to amplify someones natural features and make them feel radiant and beautiful is so rewarding. Plus, when i get to play with dramatic looks or special effects its just pure creative fun.

What is your favorite product right now?

I love our re-texturizing primer. It works so well to blur pores and imperfections and leaves me with a smooth blank canvas.

What is your specialty?

Skin is my favorite. It is for sure the most challenging and the one thing people can be really iffy about. When i was younger, anytime I got my makeup done I ALWAYS felt like I didn’t have enough coverage, and didn’t look as “airbrushed” as I wanted. As an artist I’ve put a lot of energy into perfecting the techniques I use to make your skin look perfect!

Favorite makeup tip trick or hack?

Tip: Use a beauty blender for your foundation and concealer!

Trick: Spray setting spray on your foundation right before you apply finishing powder and pounce with your beauty blender lightly. It will smooth down all the tiny hairs on your face and give you an airbrushed effect.

Hack: use concealer on your eyelid instead of shadow primer. Shadow not only adheres perfectly, but you are covering all the discoloration in your lid so your color payoff will pop!

Favorite 2018 makeup trend?

GLITTER! it’s making a comeback.

What advice would you give to your clients?

Skin care is EVERYTHING. Makeup can only do so much. It cannot cover texture. That can only be combated with skin care. I recommend really researching and investing is a good skin care regimine so the base of your makeup is as flawless as you want your makeup to look!

Melissa Marsiglia - Stylist

What made you get into this industry?

I've always had the passion to be in the industry, being a stylist was my life goal from childhood.

What is your favorite product right now?

I'm currently in love with most of the R+Co line, I'm constantly finding a new product favorite, or a new way to use things from their line. Everything is just SO good, and I'm always impressed with the results.

What is your specialty?

I don't know that I would consider it my "specialty" but I love Balayage and Blonding. Any kind of color really. And men's cuts.

Favorite tip, trick, or hack?

Simple, dry shampoo. Seriously, if you're gonna spend the time to blow out your hair, keep it for as long as you can. My newest favorite is R+Co's Spiritualized. It's just SO good. And it's a liquid formula, so no chance of white powdery roots. Thank you Jesus (or whatever your thing is)

Favorite hair trend of 2018?

I'm loving all the more natural color trends. Everything's softer and just elegantly beautiful. Also, on the opposite end of the spectrum, I love seeing people take more risks with vibrant colors. They're so much fun.

What advice would you give to your clients?

Take the risk. Try something new, that cut you've been eyeing, or that new color. Let's just go for it! Be brave!

Lilly Rudden- Stylist

What made you get into this industry?

Truthfully, I got into this industry by chance. I never thought about hair until after I graduated college, and then I fell in love with it.

What is your favorite product right now?

L'anza's Trauma Treatment. Its reparative qualities, and the way it protects the hair is amazing.

What is your specialty?

I don't want to- and never have- considered just one thing my specialty. I specialize in HAIR! Being able to design and achieve a look for somebody, whether it be color, cut, or anywhere in between, making a look come to life is what I would consider my thing.

Favorite tip, trick, or hack?

When you are blow drying your hair, make sure all the moisture is out 100%! Your style won't last if you leave any moisture. And especially if you plan on using a flat iron or curling iron after you blow dry! Any water left in the hair will do some serious damage once you run that iron through it. Once you think it's dry, hit it for a few more minutes just to be sure!

Favorite hair trend of 2018?

It's not so much specific to 2018, but the fact that anything goes now is amazing. It used to be that women of a certain age felt like they should cut their hair, not anymore. Bright crazy colors? Go for it. It's such a 'no-rules' time in the industry right now, allowing me to be creative, and you to express yourself however you want.

What advice would you give to your clients?

Invest in yourself. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. Invest in your look, Invest in your hair, Invest in you!

Aubrey Porter- Stylist

What made you get into this industry?

I just fell into it. I attended a vocational school in Ohio and decided to give it a try and here I am, 15 years later!

What is your favorite product right now?

L'anza's Smooth Down Spray! It smells amazing and cuts dow on dry time while adding unbelievable shine.

What is your specialty?

BOBS! I love them! It's such a classic cut with a lot of versatility.

Favorite tip, trick, or hack?

When using a dry shampoo, use your blow dryer to activate the powder and totally refresh the hair.

Favorite hair trend of 2018?

Super blunt bobs of course.

What advice would you give to your clients?

Your stylist holds the color and wields the scissors! Be nice or else! Actually- My advice would be to trust your stylist, we want what's best for your hair's health and look!
