Keeping your hair, skin & nails healthy through the winter!

The days are getting shorter and colder, and we all know how this time of year tends to wreak havoc on our hair, skin, & nails. Here are a few tips on how to combat some of those pesky aggressors the winter brings!

Skin:

Keeping your skin hydrated during the winter is key....but you all know that. Using a moisturizer with a heavy dose of hydration is important, but there are a few other not-so obvious things you might be guilty of!

  • Avoid taking those super long hot showers that are so attractive in the colder months. The hot water dries you out, and the cold air doesn't help your already depleted of any moisture skin.

  • Try using a skin oil after washing, to replenish your skin of any necessary natural oils it's losing as the weather gets dry

  • Use SPF! We turn to our trusty friend during the summer when the sun is on full blast, but we forget about it come winter. Don't! While UVB rays are weaker in the winter, UVA rays (causing wrinkles and premature aging) are just as strong.

Nails:

This one is not so obvious. We often neglect our nails in the winter, because..what do you do with them? Nails can become brittle in the winter, and if you aren't getting regular manicures, you might not know how to keep them strong & healthy!

  • Use a cuticle oil once a week! This will keep the nail beds moisturized

  • When you are putting on moisturizer or body lotion after a shower, don't neglect your nails! Rubbing a light layer of lotion into your nails helps add hydration to the skin around the nail and even the nail itself

Hair:

The one we care about the most. Who else suffers from dry, lack

luster hair all winter long? We know the struggle and we know it well. Here's how you can keep that mane looking luscious all winter long.

  • Regular in-salon deep conditioning treatments. We have a variety of treatments for a variety of hair concerns that range in price from only $10-$45. Stopping by the salon twice a month for a replenishing treatment will keep your hair shiny and healthy

  • Using a masque or treatment system at home helps tremendously! We recommend the Oligo Intensive Replenishing Mask, or the Joico Defy Damage Masque once or twice a week for 5-10 minutes. Voila...fresh from the salon grade hair at home.

  • Use a leave-in conditioner and let your hair go natural for the day. The SuperFoods Coconut Milk leave in spray gives you a shot of super rich, good for you moisture that will continue to work all day long!
